Ex-Cop Pleads Not Guilty To On-Duty Rape

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STNG)  -- A former Waukegan police officer pleaded not guilty Wednesday to raping a woman while on duty.

Delatwon Haynes, 32, of Zion, pleaded not guilty to four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of aggravated sexual abuse and eight counts of misconduct.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in January while he worked the midnight shift.

Haynes is being held on a $2 million bond. Earlier this month, a Lak County judge denied a defense motion to lower the bond, but on Wednesday, attorneys said they are appealing the ruling to the 2nd District Appellate Court.

Haynes resigned from the police department a few days after allegations of rape were brought against him by the then-Waukegan resident.
