GRAYSLAKE (AP) -- Police say Albert DeCarlo, 66, is in the hospital and facing criminal charges after he fell and broke his hip while stabbing his wife.
Grayslake Police Commander Matt McCutcheon says DeCarlo was quarreling with his 59-year-old wife over money when he pulled a kitchen knife from the counter and stabbed her.
McCutcheon says the two fell to the kitchen floor and DeCarlo broke his hip on impact.
The vicitm ran to a neighbor's home. She later received 15 stitches for knife wounds. Police did not identify her by name.
McCutcheon says that during their investigation, police discovered an Uzi semiautomatic submachine gun and a Beretta pistol in the home. He says the guns are legal in Illinois, but DeCarlo did not have a valid firearm owner identification card.
DeCarlo is charged with aggravated domestic battery and several misdemeanor firearm offenses.
