Doctor Charged With Illegally Selling Prescription Drugs

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- A 74-year-old northwest suburban urologist was arrested Friday morning and charged with illegally selling drugs without a prescription following an undercover investigation by Cook County Sheriff's police.

Dr. Irving M. Bush of 12N268 Switzer Rd. in Elgin was arrested about 8:30 a.m. Friday at his home without incident, according to a release from the sheriff's office. He was charged with five counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

Earlier this year, sheriff's police learned Bush was allegedly selling Xanax and Hydrocodone for cash without issuing prescriptions, the release said. Xanax, used to treat anxiety, and Hydrocodone, a pain reliever, are only available by prescription.

An undercover operation was set up and on three occasions, Dr. Bush met with an undercover sheriff's gang crimes officer and sold varying amounts of drugs, according to the release.

On two occasions, they met in the doctor's West Dundee office and on the third in an Elgin restaurant, the release said. The officer paid between $40 and $85 for between 30 and 45 pills during each transaction.

Bush is a certified urologist with an office 650 Springhill Road, Ste. 2000, in West Dundee, according to a Yellow Pages listing, which said his expertise included vasectomy and reversal, male infertility and sexual problems for men and women.

Bush was turned over to Kane County authorities. Information on his bond hearing was not immediately available.
