St. Francis Spared?

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- A major step forward today in keeping St. Francis Hospital open to residents in and around the area of  Blue Island.

An Illinois hospital oversight board has given its approval to transfer ownership of St. Francis to a new investors group who plan to rename it Metro South Medical Center, when the take-over is completed later this month.

News earlier this year that St. Francis would close because the current owners could no longer to afford to operate the facility drew protest and forged the way for a new plan to save the 102-yearold hospital.
