Teen Driver Cited for Hitting Child on Bike

CHICAGO -- Tomislav Banovic,  17, is cited after striking an eight-year-old riding a bicycle, leaving the child in critical condition in the West Rogers Parks neighborhood.
Banovic, of the 6200 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, was cited with no driver’s license and striking a pedestrian in the roadway, according to police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor. Banovic was driving a Toyota Celica when the accident occurred in the 6400 block of North Fairfield Avenue.
“A bicyclist was coming out of the alley and the Celica was unable to stop and struck the bicyclist,’’ Taylor said.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a child struck by a vehicle about 2:55 p.m. Thursday at 6400 N. Fairfield Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs Asst. Director Eve Rodriguez.
The victim was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition, Rodriguez said. Banovic remained at the scene following the crash, according to a Rogers Park District Police lieutenant.
