CHICAGO (STNG) -- If all goes as planned, two and a half years from now, the University of Chicago will have a gleaming new landmark on its Hyde Park campus.
WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports the school is unveiling plans today for a new $80Mlibrary.
University librarian Judy Nadler says the new library will be connected to the U of C's main Regenstein library.
Unlike many universities which are building their book storage facilities off-campus, the U of C decided to make this an on-campus building. Designed by famed architect Helmut Jahn, much of the book storage will be underground, topped by a huge crystal dome.
With a $25 million donation, U of C alum Joe Mansueto, the chairman and CEO of Morningstar, will have the new dome-shaped building named for him and his wife.
The new Joe and Rika Mansueto library is due to open at 57th and Ellis in the fall of 2010.
