Former Waubonsie Honor Roll Student Charged With Selling Drugs

NAPERVILLE-- Nicholas J. Bonafede, once an honor roll student from Waubonsie Valley High School has been charged with a Super X felony for allegedly selling LSD from his  apartment.
A DuPage County grand jury has indicted Bonafede, 19, of 1708 Brookdale Road, on one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
The charge is a Class X felony, but because of the quantity of drugs -- 280 objects that contained hits of LSD, according to police -- it has been upgraded to a Super X felony, which is punishable by nine to 40 years in prison.
Bonafede was the subject of a two-month investigation by police, according to Cmdr. Dave Hoffman. On April 29 a search warrant was served on his Naperville apartment where the large quantity of drugs was allegedly recovered, he said.
This is not the first time Bonafede has faced drug-related charges in Naperville.
While a junior at Waubonsie, Bonafede was charged with possession of less than 30 grams of cannabis. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to perform community service work during his six-month court supervision.
During at least two of the years he attended Waubonsie, Bonafede made the honor roll, according to published reports in The Sun.
Bonafede remains held at the DuPage County Jail on $250,000 bond. He is next due in court June 2 for arraignment on the new indictment.
