Magician Blaine Aims To Break World Record On Oprah

CHICAGO (AP)  -- Magician David Blaine is going to try to break a world record during a live broadcast of tomorrow's ``Oprah Winfrey Show'' in Chicago.

Blaine plans to hold his breath under water for more than 16 minutes and 32 seconds, which is the record set in February by a Swiss man.

Blaine will breathe pure oxygen for about 23 minutes before he enters a giant, water-filled sphere. That's allowed under rules set by Guinness World Records

Blaine says he'll try to remain perfectly still, relax and lower his heart rate to minimize oxygen consumption.

He says he's been fascinated by holding his breath since he was a child and tried to break a breath-holding record set by the legendary Harry Houdini.
