Possible Suspect In Audubon School Threat COUGAR MEMORIAL PHOTOS

COMMENT ON THIS STORY

CHICAGO (WBBM) -
There's word this morning that a "possible suspect" may be in police custody - following threats against Audubon Elementary School.

WBBM's Steve Miller reports.

This all goes back to the police shooting of a cougar two weeks ago in Roscoe Village, close to the Audubon School.

There was a threat against the school, and now the Audubon principal, John Price, is saying a "possible suspect" may be in custody on an unrelated charge and that Chicago police have turned over that person's computer to the FBI.

"We all find it very encouraging and are hopeful that they've got the right person and that this is the person we're all hoping it is."

Chicago police could not confirm that anyone is in custody.

A makeshift memorial has been set up close to the spot where the cougar was shot and killed.

There's a stick-figure drawing in white paint: A cougar that the artist has named "Cougey." Also in white paint, the date the cougar was shot 4-14-08.

Also part of the strange memorial: candles, a hip flask, a wine cooler, a beer bottle, several pieces of candy wrapped in the design of the American flag, a torn Northwestern Wildcats shirt and a wrapped condom.

The memorial is in the alley between the 3400 blocks of Hoyne and Hamilton.

Police who killed the cougar said they were afraid the animal was about to turn and attack.

Why the big fuss
I do find it ridiculous that the media is all over the fact that cougars may be making a small comeback. They are part of nature.. Leave them alone and take basic precautions.. just like bears, and get on with your life.

Cougar memorial
I love all animals, so naturally I wish that the cougar could have been captured and returned to his natural home. I am beginning to wonder if there is a natural habitat for them to be returned to. Maybe it's time for us to adjust to what God told us we had to look forward to in paradise. Remember, all that God created shall live together in peace and harmony.
