UPDATE: Memorial to Slain Cougar

CHICAGO -- A makeshift memorial has been place in Roscoe Village in the alley between the 3400 blocks of Hoyne and Hamilton, where a cougar was slain by police.

A small memorial has been placed in a Roscoe Village alley - near the spot where police shot and killed a cougar two weeks ago.

Drawn in white paint on the ground: a stick-figure of a cougar, with the date 4-14-08, the date the cougar was shot and killed nearby by police, who said they were afraid the cougar was about to turn and attack.

The artist named the drawing "Cougey" and left a torn Northwestern Wildcats shirt as part of the memorial, along with several pieces of candy wrapped in the design of the American flag.

Also part of the strange memorial: A hip flask, a wine cooler, an empty bottle of beer, and a wrapped condom.

The Roscoe Village Neighbors association has sent out a letter, reportedly from the principal of nearby Audubon School, which had received a threat after the cougar was killed.

The letter says police have a "possible suspect" in custody in connection with the threats.

Chicago police could not confirm that, and the Audubon principal could not be reached.
