North Beach Club shut down by health department

CHICAGO -- There will be no partying at a North Side nightclub and recreational facility this weekend after the city’s Department of Public Health ordered it closed Friday when inspectors discovered critical health code violations.
North Beach Club, located at 1551 N. Sheffield Ave., was  shut down  after rat feces and live fruit flies were discovered on the premises. The Sheffield Avenue business, which bills itself as an indoor adult playground, was also cited for inadequate pluming after inspectors found that hot water was not available in some of the building’s bathrooms.

Health Department inspectors also found exit doors with gaps large enough to allow access to rodents and insects.

The business will remain closed until the building’s management has taken corrective actions and passed re-inspection. Representatives of North Beach have an administrative hearing on May 29. They will also be expected to pay a $500fine.

The closure of North Beach Club is the 48th time in 2008 that health inspectors have shut down a food establishment for health violations.
