Teen Fatally Beaten With Bat At South Side Party

CHICAGO --  Albert Vaughn, 18, was fatally beaten with a bat at a South Side party Saturday night.  A suspect is in custody.
During a verbal and physical altercation at 7039 S. Throop St., the suspect allegedly struck Vaughn with the  bat just after 11 p.m.,  police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

Vaughn, of 7032 S. Elizabeth St., died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 12:20 a.m., of head injuries, said the Cook County Medical Examiner.

Vaughn was a senior at Julian High School, 10330 S. Elizabeth Ave., according to Chicago Public Schools spokesman Michael Vaughn, who said extra security and crisis councilors will be at the school Monday.

Vaughn is the 23rd Chicago Public Schools student to die a violent death this school year. Twenty-one of those students were shot.

Wentworth Area detectives are questioning the 22-year-old suspect.
