Nine Chicago Area Young People Gunned Down This Weekend




CHICAGO -- A Sunday shooting in the Englewood neighborhood hospitalized an 18-year-old man Sunday afternoon. About 12:30 p.m., he was shot in the 6400 block of South Bishop St., police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said. It is the ninth young person shot in Chicago area this weekend. Four have died.

The latest victim was hit in the leg and is in Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to Englewood District police. The shooting may be gang-related. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.

•   A TEEN-AGE GIRL was shot Saturday evening while walking with friends in the Gresham neighborhood. She is in stable condition, in Comer Children’s Hospital with gunshot wounds to her shoulder and hand. She was shot around 9:05 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 85th Street, according to police News Affairs Officer David Banks.

Several shots were apparently fired from a silver Dodge Neon, Banks said.

•   CHAVEZ CLARKE, 18, was fatally gunned down after Saturday classes at Simeon High School. Three arrests have been made.

•  MIGUEL PEDRO, 15, was fatally shot in the back Friday night after gang slogans were shouted at him. The shooting happened about 9:55 p.m. at 1624 N. Keeler Ave. Pedro, of 1532 N. Keeler Ave., was pronounced dead at 4:18 a.m. Saturday at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
•  REGINALD REED, 20, was fatally shot while driving his car in the Lawndale neighborhood,  at 4158 W. Congress Pkwy. about 12:42 p.m., according to Harrison District police. He was shot twice in the head. He was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 2:32 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
•  HUGO HARO, 25, was fatally shot while walking in an alleyway in southwest suburban Cicero Friday evening. Hours later, rival gang members retaliated and shot a young man outside Mount Sinai Hospital, where fellow gang members had gathered to hold a vigil.
•  A 25-YEAR-OLD MAN was shot in the lower back in a drive-by shooting in the Stony Island Park neighborhood on the South Side Friday evening. He drove himself home and is now in Roseland Community Hospital.
•  TWO MEN WERE SHOT in the back in a drive-by shooting on the Far South Side, in the 800 block of West 122nd Street, on Friday night. Both are hospitalized.
