Felony Charge for $300,000 ID Theft

ROUND LAKE-- Marcello J. Procena is in jail, arrested this week after police say he used a western Illinois woman's Social Security card to rack up nearly $300,000 in credit card debt.
Procena, 40, of 2199 Red Oak Drive, is charged with identity theft. Police say he used the Social Security number of a woman from Colona, Ill., to open credit cards. He then used the cards to purchase various items, including a Range Rover and his Red Oak Drive home.

The thefts, which totaled $295,000, began in June 2005, said Round Lake Police Chief Cliff Metaxa.

Procena is in the Lake County Jail on $500,000 bail. Identity theft is a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
