Chicago Firefighter Charged For Attempting To Sexually Abuse Minor
ELMHURST-- Dennis P. Goggin, a Chicago firefighter, is under arrest for attempted criminal sexual abuse after allegedly soliciting a child on the Internet.
Goggin, 42, of the 3600 block of South Union Ave. was arrested by Elmhurst police. He is charged with indecent solicitation of a child and attempted aggravated sexual abuse, , according to Elmhurst police Sgt. Steve Weatherford. Gpoggin is held on $150,000 bond in the DuPage County Jail.
He is also listed s the 2008 girls swimming coach at Lincoln Park High School, according to the Illinois High School Association Web site. Goggin was terminated from his coaching position on Friday at the high school, according to Chicago Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn.
Weatherford couldn’t release many details surrounding Goggin’s arrest, but said the incident was Internet-related.
Goggin was a “relatively new firefighter” assigned to a South Side station, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said in a statement Saturday.
Chicago's fire commissioner Raymond Orozco ordered an “immediate investigation” into the allegations and has placed Goggin on administrative leave as the “discipline process begins,” Langford said.
“While commissioner Orozco is saddened at these charges he reminds that such alleged conduct is in no way representative of the fine men and women of the Chicago Fire Department,” Langford said.
The CFD promises “quick and decisive” discipline if Goggin is found guilty.
