CHICAGO (WBBM) -- An investigation is underway into the death of a 24-year old man Tasered by police last night on the near southwest side.
WBBM’s Bernie Tafoya reports.
Officials say Roberto Gonzales died at Mt. Sinai Hospital after being brought there after being tasered by Chicago police last night on 26th and Trumbull.
Police say Gonzales was being combative and violent as police tried to arrest him, and therefore a taser was used to subdue him.
Police believe Gonzales may have had drugs in his system at the time. Autopsy toxicology tests will determine if they were.
In the meantime, the Independent Police Review Authority will investigate and decide if the Taser’s use was warranted under the circumstances.
Results of the investigation could take up to six months.
