Dad May Be Charged For Flying His Son To Tennis, Landing On Golf Course

Lincolnshire, Ill. (WBBM)  -- A north suburban Lake Villa man could wind up with legal troubles from police and the FAA after he flew his son to a tennis match over the weekend, landing his plane on a Lincolnshire golf course.

WBBM's Bernie Tafoya reports.

Bob Kadera tells WBBM says he didn’t really think it would be a "big deal".  His 14-year old son, Isaac, was running late for a tennis match and so Kadera decided to fly his Piper Clipper airplane to get him there on time. Kadera and his son flew from Deep Lake, Wis., where the ski-fitted plane was parked near their residence.

Kadera landed on the 7th fairway of Crane's Landing Golf Course in Lincolnshire, hid the plane behind a retaining wall, and was about to walk across Half Day Road with his son when police and fire arrived.

Kadera says he was "detained" as he explained what happened.  And, after all that, his son *missed* his tennis match.

Kadera says next time, he plans to drive.

Kadera says he was thinking that flying to Lincolnshire would be "a convenient way to get him down there and get him to his tennis on time".

Isaac is the youngest of 10 children….and Bob Kadera says the house was hectic Saturday and time slipped by…so they figured driving to tennis in Lincolnshire from Lake Villa would have taken too long.

Unbelievably, Kader didn't think he'd draw as much attention as he did, and he jokes maybe he should have taken a hot air balloon or a helicopter so he might have been less conspicuous.
