Smoking Ban Might Occur Across Illinois

CHICAGO -- Momentum appears to be building for smoking bans.

WBBM Newsradio 780's Felicia Middlebrooks reports the latest to consider smoking bans are Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines, DuPage County and possibly the State of Illinois.

Elk Grove Village and DesPlaines are in the discussion stages, with no decisions made either way so far.

DuPage is looking to the legislature to enact a statewide smoking ban  to allow individual counties to regulate smoking.

The thinking with a state or county ban is that municipalities would be protected from opponents, specifically restaurant and bar owners, if such a blanket ban were passed.
