Sheriff's Police Shut Down Northwest Suburban Crystal Meth Lab

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (STNG) - Bond has been set at $1 million each for two men -- ages 60 and 23 -- who were arrested last week when police took down the clandestine methamphetamine "finishing" operation in Bensenville.

The lab was discovered in a home in the 4N400 block of Ridgeland in the northwest suburb during the execution of a search warrant Friday afternoon, according to a release from the DuPage County Sheriff's office. The search warrant was obtained after detectives spent several weeks watching the residence in response to a tip from DuPage County Crime Stoppers, according to the release.

DuPage County Sheriff John E. Zaruba announced Monday that members of his multi-jurisdictional tactical narcotics unit (TNT) took down the meth lab and made the two arrests.

Lawrence Schoenbeck, 60,  who is the owner of the home, and Eric Oliver, 23, were taken into police custody about 2:30 p.m. Friday during the execution of the warrant, the release said. TNT was assisted in executing the search warrant by the Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team.

Schoenbeck and Oliver were each charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver -- a class X felony -- and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police seized over 200 grams of methamphetamine, which carries a street value of about $40,000, and various drug paraphernalia, along with a 2003 Scion and a small amount of cash during the raid, the release said.

The so called “finishing labs” take already manufactured raw methamphetamine and refine the powdery looking substance until it becomes crystal methamphetamine, a more attractive product to some users, the release said.

Schoenbeck is currently being held with a bond amount of $1 million, the release said. His next court date is Feb. 25th in courtroom 4014 of the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.

Oliver is being held with a $1 million also and his next court date is Feb. 25th in courtroom 4000 of the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.
