Wear Shorts? In This Weather? You Bet

(WBBM) - If you think it's tough making it through this current blast of arctic cold, just imagine doing it while wearing shorts.

WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports that what four hardy employees of a suburban grocery store are doing.

It began on a lark last September when the weather started turning cooler.

Employees of Trader Joe's in Arlington Heights challenged each other to see who could go the longest wearing shorts while at work.  The winner gets $100 and an iPod shuffle.

Their work is not all indoors. Employees have to go outside to collect shopping carts and help customers with groceries.

Twenrty started out. Now there are four left including 27-year-old Mark Landow.

Landow, a Chicago native, says he's used to the cold and has found that even in this past weekend's sub-zero weather, it wasn't as bad as he expected. He figures if the contestants could make it through this weekend's weather, they can make it through anything.

Since none of the 4 still standing in the contest shows any sign of weakening, Landow says to determine the winner, they might have to change the rules once they get through the winter and see who can go the longest during the summer, wearing long, warm pants.
