Update: Corrections Officer Died From Multiple Injuries, Death Ruled Accident

CHICAGO – The death of Angelina White has been ruled an accident.

She was the 41-year-old Cook County Corrections officer heading to work who was killed Thursday night when she lost control of a vehicle on the Dan Ryan Expressway and struck a pillar and cement median. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death and resulted in the accident ruling, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

White was alone in her car headed north in the left express lane on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) when she swerved across the lanes and struck a pillar supporting the 47th Street overpass about 10:25 p.m., Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall said.

The vehicle then swerved back across the express lanes and struck a cement median that separated the express lanes from the CTA's Red Line tracks, Hall said.

Emergency crews were called to the crash at 11:17 pm. and an EMS Plan 1 response was called, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford. White was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Friday.

“Her head struck a pillar, and that was it,” Langford said
