Son Of Former Police Supt. Cline Sues CTA For Attack, Theft
CHICAGO -- Timothy Cline, the son of former Police Supt. Phil Cline, is suing the CTA, one year after he was mugged and robbed on a Blue Line train.
While riding a train on Jan. 18, 2007, Cline was assaulted, sprayed with mace, and robbed about 9:50 p.m.
Cline is accusing CTA of failing to protect passengers from acts of robbery and mayhem, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. The suit is seeking in excess of $30,000.
He claims CTA was aware of the fact similar incidents occurred the night he was robbed, but did nothing to more robberies, the suit said. The transit agency is also accused of not contacting police to apprehend the “villains” and protect riders on the train, the suit said.
The attack left Cline with a temporary loss of vision after being maced in the eyes. He also claims to have suffered "severe and subsequent emotional distress" from the attack, the suit alleges.
Three people were charged with robbing Cline. Marty Cole, 17; Bryant Green, 19, and Racheanrena Green, 17, were charged with one count each of armed robbery. Cole and Bryant Green were ordered held on $375,000 bond and Racheanrena Green was ordered held on $350,000 bond, said Cook County state's attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Racheanrena Green allegedly approached Cline and Maced him in the face. All three men then allegedly took cash and a Blackberry cell phone from Cline and fled the train. Police received information that three suspects were in the South Loop and found Bryant Green, who allegedly was holding a phone matching the description of the stolen phone, Conklin said.
Three suspects were arrested near Roosevelt Road and State Street by Central District tactical officers already investigating a string of holdups, police News Affairs Director Monique Bond said.
