Child Therapist, School Board Member Charged With Sex Abuse

WAUCONDA, Ill. (WBBM)  -- A Wauconda school board member was arrested and charged for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old family member.

WBBM's Suburban Bureau Chief Julie Mann reports.

Nicholas S. Batson, of  the 25700 block of West Ivanhoe Road in Wauconda Township, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual abuse Monday after the teen came forward to police with accusations.

Batson is a  member of the Wauconda School District #118 School Board and also a state certified child physical therapist.

Batson runs a child physical therapy business out of his home. In announcing the arrest, Sheriff Mark Curran said there is concern that Batson may have abused other children at his business.

“Given the fact that Mr. Batson is employed as a child physical therapist, we are concerned the possibility exists that other victims may be out there,” Curran said in the release. “Any parent who believes their child may have been violated by Mr. Batson is urged to come and speak with one of our detectives.”

There is no indication any children were abused through Batson's position on the school board.
