CHICAGO (WBBM) -- County commissioner Larry Suffredin visited a memorial to slain Chicago Public School students to promote an ordinance trimming the number of gun shops in Cook County.
Commissioner Suffredin visited the Mexican fine art Museum in Pilsen to explain his bill that would bar any gunshop within a mile or any school or park, or within ten miles of any other gunshop, anywhere in Cook County.
It would ban gun shows anywhere in Cook County and would override any other local ordinance with weaker restrictions.
Suffredin was joined by Father Michael Pflaeger and the parents of several slain children as he predicted passage of his proposal which he says has 2 more than the 9 votes he'd need for passage.
Suffredin says there are about 20 guns shops in Cook County and his ordinance would close 4 of them including Chuck's gun shop in Riverdale.
Suffredin spoke at the Mexican Fine Arts Museum, 1852 W 19th St, which has just unveiled an art installation of empty desks and a wall of names by 'Big Picture" High School students commemorating 32 Chicago PuUblic School students shot to death during the 2006 07 school year.
