Oak Lawn Official Finds $1M Bearer Bond In Drawer

OAK LAWN, Ill. (STNG/WBBM) - Oak Lawn village officials have discovered a $1 million bearer bond in a desk drawer.

Finance director Brian Hanigan found the bond in the desk drawer of his
predecessor, Gail Paul.

Whoever physically holds the bearer bond papers owns the stock or corporation it represents. In the event of loss or theft, bearer bonds are extremely difficult to recover.

The bond apparently was purchased in 1992. It is unclear whether Oak Lawn
can retrieve the $1 million or why the bond was in a drawer.

Village officials said Tuesday they have tried to contact Gail Paul, who now
works for Countryside, but have been unsuccessful.
