Chicago-Style 'Tea Party' Dumps Bottled Water Into River
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and two Cook County commissioners led a Boston Tea Party-style protest this afternoon at the Chicago River.
WBBM's Steve Miller reports.
The issue for the politicians and a couple dozen protesters: no more taxes and no more government waste on the county or city level.
One of the speakers: County Commissioner Forrest Claypool, defeated for the county board presidency by Todd Stroger.
"Enough is enough. We have to stop these crazy taxes year after year."
Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. led the dumping of bottled water off the Michigan Avenue bridge - to protest a proposal to tax bottled water sold in Chicago by at least 10 cents a bottle.
"As a symbolic gesture, we pour our water back into the Chicago River."
