Cops Pay Pre-Halloween Visits To Paroled Sex Offenders

CHICAGO (WBBM) - Police are visiting paroled sex offenders in the days leading up to and including Halloween.  It’s part of a three-year-old program is called Operation Safe Spirits.

WBBM’s Debra Dale reports.

The Illinois Department of Corrections is working with local law enforcement, reminding paroled sex offenders that on Halloween, they're not allowed to dress in costume, decorate their homes, have their porch light on, or give candy to trick-or-treaters.

But some sex offenders who've completed their probation or parole can give out candy.

Last year, Safe Spirits sent one sex offender back to jail after he was caught giving candy to children on Halloween night.

Parents are urged to check online sex offender registries and have their children avoid those houses while trick-or-treating
