$50K Reward Offered In Shooting Death Of Niles Man

NILES, Ill. (STNG)  -- The father of a Niles man shot to death during a home invasion earlier this year in the northern suburb is offering a $50,000 reward for information in the case.

Michael Childers, 28, was shot to about 2:33 p.m. on Feb. 21 during a home invasion at his residence in the 8100 block of Susan Court, according to a release from Niles police.

On Tuesday, Leonard Bird, Childers’ father, announced a $50,000 reward for anyone giving information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the offender(s) in this case, the release said. The reward fund is being held in a special account at Premier Bank in Wilmette.

The Niles Police Department previously released a composite sketch of one of the suspects, a white male, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 with a medium build.

Anyone with information should call the police Investigations Division at (847) 588-6574 or the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force at (847) 853-7580.
