Washington Red Line Station Closed

CHICAGO (CBS)  -- Some major changes are in store for Loop ‘L’ riders.

Beginning on Monday, the Washington station in the CTA Red Line subway will be closed for two years for repairs and upgrades.

Also closed will be the pedestrian transfer tunnel between the Red and Blue lines at Washington Street.

Red Line trains will not make stops between Monroe and Lake streets during the work.

A free connection between the Red and Blue lines is still available at Jackson.

The closure is for construction to link the Red and Blue Line subways to the planned rapid transit station at 108 N. State St., a complex to be built on the land now known as Block 37.
