SKOKIE, Ill. (STNG) -- Despite the efforts of her husband, a doctor, a 58-year-old woman died Thursday night after collapsing on a treadmill in north suburban Skokie.
Mariana Cheregi, 58, was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie after collapsing at Lifetime Fitness, 5300 Old Orchard Rd. in Skokie, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Autopsy results were not available as of 12:50 p.m.
After walking on a treadmill for about 5 or 10 minutes, Cheregi collapsed and fell to the ground about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Skokie police Sgt. Fred Brehmer.
She apparently went into cardiac arrest and her husband, a doctor at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, was there.
“He did CPR on his wife until the fire department got there,’’ according to Brehmer. An ambulance transported her to Rush, he said.
The woman’s death appeared natural and there were no signs of trauma, according to Brehmer.
A member of Lifetime Fitness collapsed “sometime after 10 p.m.,” according to Lifetime Fitness spokesman Kent Wipf.
There was aid and CPR given at the club, he said. |
