CHICAGO (WBBM) - An organizer of GreenFest at Navy Pier says if you show up you'll learn how to eat organically without breaking the bank and throw a kids birthday party that without leaving the house knee deep in wrapping paper and plastic.
WBBM's John Cody has more.
Isabel Schecter is Chicago Regional Director of GreenFest which starts at 9 Saturday at Navy Pier.
Schechter says the non-profit organizers are trying to lead green by example, knocking off a third of the $15 admission price to anyone who rides their bike or takes the bus to the show at navy Pier.
Chicago green pioneer Richard Daley will be one of the 150 speakers at the weekend GreenFest which will have 350 exhibitors displaying everything from eco-tours where you actually get off the cruise ship, to public service birthday parties where the kids help others instead of just helping themselves to more carbs.
Organizer Schechter says programs on energy efficiency will show visitors how to cut their gas and electricity bills.
She says Eco-Tourism booths will explain how to save money by visiting local shops and people at their destinations.
And she says the organic food seminars will suggest families cut out one restaurant meal a month, thus saving enough money to eat organic at no extra cost for the rest of the money
GreenFest starts 9 a.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. Sunday at Navy Pier.
