Weekend Crime, Violence Updates




A 2-year-old boy died Saturday evening after he was hit by a vehicle in a South Side alley.

About 4:45 p.m., a vehicle traveling north in an alley in the 7200 block of South Sacramento Avenue struck the victim, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:19 p.m..

The vehicle did not flee the scene; no citations have yet  been issued. An autopsy i9s to be done by the Cook County Medical Examiner. The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.

A SHOOTING INSIDE  a car wash in the South Side's Hamilton Park neighborhood left one man dead and seven others wounded early Saturday, police said.

The shooting happened at a party inside a car wash in the 7100 block of South Vincennes Avenue about 1:15 a.m., police said.

According to police an unknown number of offenders opened fire inside the car wash and struck eight individuals, police said. The motive for the shooting was not available nor the number of offenders.

Andre Jackson, 29, of was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:15 a.m., according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman, who said Jackson was found with gunshot wounds at 7247 S. Wentworth Ave. in an alley.

Police said Jackson may have fled the scene of the shooting on Vincennes Avenue.

Seven other people also have gunshot wounds. A 21-year-old man was shot in the chest and is in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, a 17-year-old male was shot in the thigh and is in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and a female is in University of Chicago Hospitals with a graze wound to the head.

Additionally four other victims went to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center to be treated for gunshot wounds, police said.

No one is s in custody as Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.


A VICTIM IS IN "CRITICAL" in critical condition after he was shot in the North Side’s Uptown neighborhood Saturday evening.

About 6:45 p.m., he was shot multiple times in the 4500 block of North Broadway Street, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said. He is in Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Further details have yet to be released

SIX HAVE BEEN CHARGED with mob action for their part in a gang-related attack outside a home in southwest suburban Oak Lawn, police said.

The fracas began about 11 p.m.,  when police say a Chrysler with six people inside arrived outside a home in the 7000 block of West 96th Street, where they met several people believed to be rival gang members.

Three people got out of the Chrysler, and at least one person, identified by police as Jesse Vela, 20, of South Archer Ave., Chicago, swung a baseball bat and smashed three windows of a nearby car, police reports show.

Police said the three returned to the car, which sped away west on 96th Street carrying Vela and five others.

Several unidentified rival gang members gave chase in a sport utility vehicle, eventually catching up to the fleeing Chrysler about a block away and ramming its bumper, police said.

With its rear bumper dragging on the pavement, the Chrysler continued until it was stopped in the 1000 block of Southwest Highway by police in Chicago Ridge.

The driver of the car, Ashley Sundquist, 18, of  David Court, Oak Lawn, was charged with mob action, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Vela was charged with mob action and criminal damage to property.

The car's remaining passengers, Joseph Vela, 22, and Julian Vela, 18, both South 76th Ave., Summit; Brittany Calatayud, 18, South Mayfield Ave., Oak Lawn; and Geraldo Reza, 17, of  Marion Drive, Justice, are each charged with mob action.

Oak Lawn police Division Chief Mike Kaufmann said the driver and passengers of the SUV could be charged, but they haven't been found yet.

A MAN WAS SHOT while standing on a street in the South Chicago neighborhood Saturday morning.

Police responded to the shooting in the 6700 block of South Chappel Avenue at 10:39 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

A 51-YEAR-OLD MAN was wounded in a shooting on the West Side when a man got out of a van to shoot him, then drove off.

The victim was in the 2600 block of West Monroe Street when a white van pulled up, the driver got out and ran around to the passenger side and fired two shots at the victim, police said.

The man was struck in the leg, while the shooter got back in the van and drove off. The victim's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police. Hospital information is not available.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.


A YOUNG VICTIM IS DEAD and four others wounded after shootings within 15 minutes citywide Friday afternoon.

At 3:08 p.m., a man was shot near Homan Avenue and Washington Boulevard and is in  to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said.

At 3:15 p.m., two males where wounded in a drive-by shooting in the 7900 block of South King Drive, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said. One was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and the other to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The teen taken to Christ Hospital from the the King Drive shooting was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, who said the teen remains unidentified.

Calumet Area detectives said no suspects are in custody

 TWO TEENS  shot in the 200 block of North Karlov Avenue, Knight said. Both went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Further details were not released.

ARTIES ANDERSON was fatally shot  while playing a dice game near his house on the West Side.

Anderson, 30, of West Madison St., was shot multiple times near his home and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.

About 3:05 p.m., Anderson was playing in a dice game on the street when a man, who did not appear to be a participant in the game, shot him. Police are looking for a gray Ford Bronco they believe the shooter used to flee the scene. Nobody else was injured.

A Saturday autopsy determined Anderson died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
