(WBBM) - Former Chicago Bear Jim Schwantz is now Mayor Schwantz.
Schwantz--a member of the WBBM Chicago Bears Broadcast Team--was elected mayor of Palatine Tuesday evening by a 2-1 majority over longtime incumbent Rita Mullens.
Schwantz told WBBM that his campaign started by knocking on more that 1,000 doors in the community explaining why he was running.
He said he decided to run because he felt the residents of Palatine needed an ambassador that would reach out to all in the community.
Schwantz is a member of the WBBM Chicago Bears Broadcast Team along with former players Jay Hilgenberg and Tom Thayer, plus announcers Jeff Joniak and Ron Gleason.
Schwantz is a former linebacker for the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and the San Francisco 49ers. He went to the Pro Bowl after the 1996 season as a special teams player. Schwantz played college football at Purdue University. He is a graduate of William Fremd High School in Palatine.
