UPDATE: Weekend Violence Includes Hit-And-Run Death
CHICAGO -- Howard Jones was killed in the 6800 block of South Stony Island Avenue, crossing the street early Sunday.
A dark-colored vehicle struck him about 1:30 a.m., according a police News Affairs Officer David Banks. Jones, 35, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 2:10 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
Jones resided at 701 W. Jackson Blvd., the spokesman said. Police Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the investigation. No furtehr informaiton is available in the hit-and-run.
•A "KNOWN" OFFENDER" shot a man in the abdomen early Sundya, police report. It happened just before 2:30 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Stewart Avenue, police News Affairs Officer David Banks said. The two had been arguing.
The victim, 27, is in "serious condition" in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. No arrests have been made.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
•THE DEATH OF ERIC BOGAN, shot dead with his body left in a garbage can on the South Side late Friday, continues to be investigated
Police received a call notifying them of a body found in a garbage can shortly before midnight, according to Morgan Park District police.
Bogan, 45, of 9206 S. Elizabeth St., was found just blocks from his home in the 9200 block of South Racine Avenue, police said.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating. The autopsy shows Bogan had a gunshot wound to the head. His death is ruled a homicide, said the Cook County Medical Examiner. •A BLOCK FROM HIS HOME in Harvey, Jessie Williams, 41, was shot to death Saturday night. He was gunned down at 15700 Turlington Ave. in Harvey, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. He lived at 15640 Turlington Ave.. He was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m. at St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields.
Harvey police would not comment.
•ROMAZ LUCAS was shot dead on his own block in the Austin neighborhood.
He was one of two men shot on the 5300 block of West Race Avenue about 3:40 p.m., police News Affairs Officer David Banks said. Lucas, of 5344 W. Race Ave., was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 4:24 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
Banks said the second man, also in his 20s, has a gunshot wound to his leg and torso and is in Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police have no information and no known suspects in the shootings, but Grand Central Area detectives are investigating. •IN HAMILTON PARK, Police are investigating the death of an unidentified man found shot Saturday morning, his body abandoned in a car.
The victim was found about 5 a.m. at 506 W. 60th St. with a gunshot wound. He was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. Police have no information and no known suspects.
•BODY FOUND IN FOX RIVER: The body of a homeless shelter resident was found Saturday morning in the Fox River in Aurora.
The man's body was found at 9:27 a.m. in the Fox River behind the city of Aurora Animal Control and Care Facility in the 600 block of South River Road, police said.
The man is said to have been a resident of Hesed House in Aurora. Hesed House is listed as a center for ministries providing services to poor and homeless people, according to the center's Web site.
The man’s identity will be released after family notification.
Police said a train conductor on a passing train thought he spotted a body and contacted police. Officers confirmed the find.
Workers at Animal Control said they saw the coroner’s van arrive Saturday morning, then saw police officers and water rescue teams in the area behind their office where guests of the Hesed House homeless shelter usually hang out on nice days.
An autopsy is scheduled.
•AN OFF-DUTY OFFICER was involved in a shooting that has one injured person in custody .
The officer saw two people exchanging gunfire on the 12700 block of South Parnell Avenue.
As he announced to the two that he was a police officer, one of the shooters pointed his weapon at the office,. The officer, in fear of his life, fired his weapon at the gunman, "who subsequently fled the scene."
A male, whose age was not specified in the release, turned up a short time later at Roseland Community Hospital with a gunshot wound. That man is now in custody.
The matter remains under investigation by the Independent Police Review Authority.
•A TEEN WAS SHOT just before 10 p.m. Friday, in the 400 block of North Laramie Avenue. To men, believed to be 19 and 20 years old, approached the 17-year-old vicitm him and fired shots, police said. Both offenders ran off.
The victim was hit in the right ankle and is in “stable” condition at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.
Police have no information and no known suspects.
•ANOTHER TEEN was shot in the 8300 block of South Whipple Street.
The 18-year-old victim was approached by someone who began firing shots and struck him in the groin, police said. The victim is in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in “stable” condition.

•VICTIM SHOT IN FOOT: About 10:20 p.m., a person was shot in the foot in the 1200 block of South Avers Avenue, police News Affairs Officer David Banks said.
The victim was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition. No further information has been issued.
Police have no information and no known suspects. •ANOTHER VICTIM was shot in the Little Village neighborhood.
The male was shot in the buttocks in the 1900 block of South Troy Street. The shooter, wearing a “black hooded sweater” approached the man and began firing.
He is in Mount Sinai Hospital in “stable” condition. No further information has been issued.
Police have no information and no known suspects. •ANOTHER TEEN was crossing the street near his home in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue when he saw people running and heard gunfire, police said.
The victim, 19, ran to his home, where he realized he had been shot in the right leg. He is in Holy Cross Hospital in “stable” condition. No further information has been issued.
Police have no information and no known suspects.
•A 31-YEAR-OLD MAN was shot in the left leg on the 7700 block of South Stewart Avenue, police said. He is in Little Company of Mary Hospital in "stable" condition. No further information has been issued.

•A 32-YEAR-OLD man was shot his left elbow about 12:42 a.m. in the 3700 block of West 18th Street. He is in Mount Sinai Hospital. No further information has been issued.

•A MAN IN HIS 20s was shot in the leg in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The victim was shot on the 1100 block of North Hamlin Avenue about 6:35 p.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. He does not have life-threatening injuries, according to a Harrison District Lieutenant. Police are investigating.
