E-Mail Story Print Story Email Story Posted: Friday, 04 July 2008 4:43PM UPDATE: Third Naperville Resident Falls Victim to Fishing Scam NAPERVILLE -- A third Naperville resident has fallen prey to a telephone scam targeting the elderly, a scam in which two of the victims lost more than $9,000, police said. In a press release, police said the scam involves a man calling the victim, claiming to be the victim's grandson. The scammer tells the elderly person he has been arrested in Canada for fishing without a fishing license and needs bond or fine money immediately. The scammer instructs the victim to wire money from either a Wal-Mart or U.S. Bank. Police said three people have come forward as being victimized in the scam, one on July 1 and the other two on July 3. The three victims all live in different parts of Naperville. Police do not know how the victims are being selected. If you have been the victim of such a fraud, or have received a similar telephone call, please contact the Naperville Police Department at (630) 420-6665.
