Two Dead, Four Injured in July 4 Crash Near Sandwich
SANDWICH -- Two people were dead and another critically injured following a collision Friday night in LaSalle County.
Police there are looking for the driver of one of the two cars, who ran from the accident scene and has not yet been apprehended, according to the LaSalle County Sheriff .
Sheriff's police said at 10:30 p.m. Friday, a vehicle ran a stop sign at East 30th Road at North 4750th Road in Northville Township, west of west suburban Aurora, and collided with another vehicle. The two vehicles went into a ditch.
The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A front seat passenger died of her injuries after being airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
A passenger in the second vehicle was also airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, the release said. The driver of the second vehicle fled on foot. Police continue to search for this driver.
Three other passengers from the first car were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation. The names of the deceased have not been released pending family notification.
