Senator Jesse Jackson Junior?

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- Congressman Jesse Jackson Junior is downplaying but not ducking suggestions that he could be in line to become Illinois’ next U-S Senator if Barack Obama is elected President. WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports from the Loop.

There’s been talk among elected officials that if Senator Barack Obama is elected to a bigger job, the pressure will be on Governor Blagojevich to name Jesse Jackson Junior to the post.

Some suggest Jackson’s wife, Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, might try to take his place in Congress. The current Congressman Jackson points out such speculation is premature.

Jackson  says he’s humbled by any discussion about the chance that he might be named to take Barack Obama’s Senate seat. But, he’s quick to say that as a co-chair of the Obama campaign his primary task is getting Illinois’ Junior Senator elected President.

Jackson notes the decision is the Governor’s to make, and he’ll live with whatever that is. As for Sandi Jackson, Congressman Jackson says he can’t speak for what his wife might do.
