Reward Offered For Cross-Dressing Bandit

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- The FBI has offered a reward of up to $10,000 to find a man who robbed a northwest suburban bank last summer while wearing a floral print dress and sun hat, and carrying a black purse and matching handgun.

According to witnesses, at about 6:50 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2008, a man entered the MB Financial Bank branch at 1014 Busse Hwy. in Park Ridge, wearing a black and pink floral-print dress, pink wide-brimmed sun hat, long white cloth gloves and white sandals. He was carrying an oversized black purse and a black handgun as he loudly announced the robbery and demanded money from the vault, according to a release form the FBI.

The cross-dressing thief then told a bank employee to put cash into a plastic shopping bag. After receiving the money, he forced two bank employees and a lone customer into a bathroom and used plastic zip-ties to restrain their hands behind their backs. Witnesses report the robber’s demeanor was calm and methodical. He left the building, fleeing in an unknown direction.

In addition to his distinctive wardrobe, the robber is described as a black male 18 to 20 years old, about 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. Despite his choice of outfit, the man is considered armed and dangerous.

The Chicago office of the FBI in asking for the public’s assistance to find the robber and has offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to his identification and arrest.

Anyone recognizing the man or information about the robbery should call the FBI at 421-6700.
