CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Union protestors outside a hotel in downtown Chicago got some help this morning with their picket.
A handful of dogs joined protesters in front of the Affinia in Streeterville.
People, and pups, sported t-shirts saying 'we are not afraid' like those worn by union workers arrested during a sit-in on Chicago Avenue outside the Park Hyatt last month.
Sara Foran, lead organizer with Unite Here Local One, says the Affinia has refused to join contract negotiations with other hotels and the hospitality industry union.
A server at The Drake, Ellen Maloney, brought her black lab to protest what she sees as an erosion of hotel workers' benefits.
Jose Sarabia, a waiter at the Avenue hotel says many hotels are using the bad economy as an excuse to cut employees' insurance, pensions and wages.
The hotel workers union says 6,500 of its members have been working without a contract since Aug 31.
Management at the Affinia, which was hosting a doggie brunch on Sunday, had no comment.
