CHICAGO (WBBM) - An influential state lawmaker says Governor Rod Blagojevich must never be allowed to name the next U.S. senator from Illinois, a position he's accused of trying to sell.
State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) says if Blagojevich doesn't leave quickly and voluntarily, he'll try to have him impeached.
Franks is chairman of the House Government Administration Committee.
Franks says legislation he's drawn up would block a governor from appointing a replacement senator and would call for a special election in February of next year.
Franks says it's possible that dealmaking like the feds allege could have been behind last year's state legislative log jam.
