Photo surfaces of possible missing grad student

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- A photograph in at least two Costa Rican publications has prompted a new search for a doctoral student from Chicago who disappeared in Costa Rica four weeks ago.
David Gimelfarb, 28, of Chicago vanished on the 11th of August after he left to go hiking in a national park in Costa Rica.
Now there's a photograph, supposedly taken of the interior of a volcano crater, which seems to show a body.
"It was an aerial shot that was taken and there has not been any confirmation as to when the photograph was taken. So we're not sure if it was something that was more recent or if it was in the last few days or so."
There are questions about whether the photo is genuine, when it was taken and where.
But the press officer at the American embassy in Costa Rica, Melissa Martinez, says the aerial shot has apparently prompted the Red Cross to take a look inside the crater.
"We are not necessarily in the position to determine whether or not it's going to end up being the body of David Gimelfarb. However, the Red Cross has made the decision to go ahead and continue the search for the sake of having some kind of closure for the family."
A notice on the Facebook page dedicated to finding Gimelfarb questions the credibility of the photograph.
