CHICAGO (STNG) - CTA Red Line service has been restored Tuesday morning after a man was killed when he jumped in front of a CTA Red Line train on the South Side Tuesday morning.
Just before 6 a.m., a southbound red line train made contact with a person at the Sox-35th Street Red Line station, 142 W. 35th St., according to CTA spokeswoman Kim Myles.
The man apparently intentionally jumped in front of the train and was killed, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said, adding that the incident is being investigated as a suicide.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has been notified of the man’s death. He remains unidentified as of 8:30 a.m., a medical examiner’s office spokesman said.
Northbound and southbound trains were temporarily operating on a single track between the Cermak-Chinatown station and the 47th Street station but as of about 8 a.m., service was restored and trains are running on their regular schedule, Myles said.
Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said the Fire Department was notified at 6:13 a.m. and one ambulance was sent to the scene. As of 6:35 a.m. fire department personnel were still on the scene and no one had been transported to a hospital.
