One extricated after West Dundee crash
|
WEST DUNDEE (STNG) -- There's no word what caused a car carrying a female driver and three passengers to drive straight through a curve in northwest suburban West Dundee Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened when a motorist crashed into a tree on Sleepy Hollow Road, just south of Illinois Route 72, according to Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Jim Montalbano.
The single-vehicle accident occurred at about 3 p.m. Saturday.
"It appeared to lose control around the curve," Montalbano said. "We're not sure if the lady behind the wheel had a medical problem at the time, but it went straight."
Instead of curving to the right, the car hit an embankment, then a tree, according to the police chief.
Montalbano said the wet, muddy ground alongside the road probably kept the car from flipping over. But it still was so damaged, he said emergency crews had to extricate one of the passengers from underneath its crushed dashboard.
All four people in the car were taken to an area hospital. The police chief did not comment about their condition but said there were no fatalities in the accident as of 5 p.m. Saturday.
The Carpentersville Fire Department, Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District, West Dundee Police Department and Illinois State Police assisted the Sleepy Hollow Police Department in the rescue efforts.
