CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man is dead and two other men are in critical condition after two cars collided Thursday night in the South Side's Hamilton Park neighborhood.
Emergency crews responded at 8:57 p.m. to a pin-in crash at South Vincennes Avenue and West 73rd Street and found one person dead and two others injured, Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said.
Sylvester Jackson Jr., 49, of the 1800 block of S. Spaulding Ave., was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m. Thursday at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, who said he was the driver of one of the vehicles.
Jackson was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile when the crash happened. The passenger in his car, a 30-year-old man, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, said News Affairs Officer Michael Fitzpatrick.
The 41-year-old man driving the other car, a 1993 Chevrolet Caviler, was also taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Fitzpatrick said.
An autopsy is scheduled for later Friday, the medical examiner's office said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating but no citations had been issued as of 2:30 p.m.
