CHICAGO -- Hugo Gallardo, 30, has been charged with drunken driving after running a stop sign and crashing into a police car Friday night in the Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood.
Gallardo, of the 5900 block of South Mozart Street, was charged with driving under the influence, said police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor. Gallardo is scheduled in bond court Monday.
About 11 p.m., the vehicle Gallardo was driving struck a police squad car at South Throop Street and West 50th Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The vehicle was traveling south on Throop when it ran a stop sign and struck the eastbound squad car with two detectives from the Wentworth Area Midnight Gang Team inside, Greer said.
in to University of Illinois Medical Center in “stable” condition, Greer said. Gallardo is in to Saint Anthony Hospital in “stable” condition, police said.
After the crash, a crowed gathered near the intersection and a man in the crowd who was not involved in the accident was spotted with a gun. When the man realized his weapon was showing he fled on foot and dropped the gun, Greer said.
Police recovered the weapon, but not the man.
