MELROSE PARK--Stone Park police confirm Ivano Mazzulla, killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and an SUV in northwest suburban Melrose Park Wednesday afternoon, was a Stone Park police corporal, and the brother of Stone Park mayor Ben Mazulla.
Ivano Mazzulla, 33, of Stone Park died at t 2033 N. Mannheim Road around 3 p.m., reports the Cook County Medical Examiner. A witness said the accident involved a motorcycle and an SUV, and the motorcycle driver was killed.
Mazzulla, a police corporal, was initially hired by the department in April 2001, according to Stone Park Police Deputy Chief Louis Fatta.
Mazulla began as a part-time police officer and became a full-time officer in June 2003, Fatta said. He was also a shift supervisor and a truck enforcement officer who was involved in community policing.
Mazzulla is survived by his wife and three children, Fatta said.
