CHICAGO (STNG) -- A Northwest Side woman has been charged with sexual assault of a child who is a female relative.
Maria Flores, 29, from the 2300 block of North Meade Avenue, was charged Sunday with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated battery of a child, domestic battery causing bodily harm, and endangering the life and health of a child, according to a news alert from police News Affairs. The girl suffered numerous injuries and instances of sexual assault over the course of a three-year period.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of abuse after receiving a call to their hotline, department spokesman Kendall Marlowe said. DCFS has had no prior contact with the family, he said.
The girl has been taken into protective custody, and four other children in the household are now in the care of relatives, Marlowe said. Authorities would not discuss the relationship of the other children.
Police said the victim had an “outcry” to school officials last week, but would not elaborate.
Flores is scheduled for a bond hearing in Central Bond Court (Br. 1) on Monday.
