LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (CBS2/WBBM) ― Only two days after parts of Northwest Indiana were clobbered with snow, a new lake effect snowstorm is about to descend on some areas.

The WBBM AccuWeather forecast calls for a total snow accumulation through tomorrow in Northwest Indiana of 8-16 inches, especially over northeast Porter and LaPorte counties.

Northwest winds across Lake Michigan are combining with very cold air to bring the lake effect snow showers to Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.

The worst snowfall is expected to come Thursday night before the Arctic high generating the cold air moves southeast and weakens the snow bands, the National Weather Service reported.

A lake effect snow warning is in effect for LaPorte and St. Joseph counties in Indiana from 9 a.m. CT/10 a.m. ET through noon CT/1 p.m. ET Friday. A lake effect snow advisory is in effect for Porter County, Ind., from noon CT to 9 a.m. CT Friday.

On Tuesday, up to a foot of snow fell in parts of Northern Indiana. There were 30 crashes and 20 slide-offs in the early morning hours Tuesday on Interstate 94 as the snow fell, according to Indiana State Police.
