MANTENO, Ill. (STNG) - A firefighter from Manteno has been charged with indecent solicitation of a child over the Internet after allegedly trying to arrange a sexual encounter with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
Michael P. Trost, 43, of Manteno, about 25 miles south of Chicago in Kankakee County, was charged with indecent solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a minor, and grooming, all felonies, according to a release from Crete police.
Trost -- a Manteno firefighter -- was ordered held on $200,000 bond by Will County Judge Richardson on Thursday, and is expected to appear in court June 22 for a preliminary hearing, according to the release.
Trost was arrested after a nearly two-month investigation in which Trost thought he was communicating online with a 13-year-old girl who in reality was a specially trained Crete police officer.
Trost initiated sexually explicit online conversations and requested to have a sexual encounter with the “girl’’ on Wednesday, the release said. When he arrived at a pre-determined location to meet and engage in the sexual activity, he was taken into custody.
After being read his rights, Trost allegedly made a full confession, the release said.
In his capacity with the Manteno Fire Department, Trost was issued a laptop computer, which he admitted using for the illegal communications. A search warrant was obtained from a Will County judge and the laptop was recovered at Trost's home. It will be analyzed for forensic evidence, the release said. Trost’s 2008 Ford pickup was also impounded.
Manteno fire officials are cooperating with the investigation.
