Man punches police horse outside Lollapalooza
|
CHICAGO (STNG) -- A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly punching a police horse outside the Lollapalooza music festival in Grant Park on Sunday night.
The incident happened about 9 p.m. at 501 S. Congress Plaza Dr. -- near Michigan Avenue and Congress Parkway -- according to police News Affairs Officer Kevin Kilmer.
While he could not confirm that the incident was Lollapalooza-related, it did occur outside the site of the festival as it was ending and police were trying to get crowds to disperse.
The horse-puncher, whose name Kilmer did not have available, apparently refused to move or get out of the way as police, including Mounted Unit officers, were trying to assist in crowd control in and around Grant Park.
The man "punched the horse, which caused the horse to become startled and rear up in a crowded event," Kilmer said. "As soon as he (punched the horse) they grabbed him."
The man was taken to the Central District police station and charged with a misdemeanor, Kilmer said.
Kilmer had no information on the condition of the horse.
